Down Rods
Downrods Can Make Ceiling Fans Work Better
Downrods are small cylinder type rods that can be attached to ceiling fans to drop them down in height. The ideal height for a ceiling fan in order for it to work effectively is seven to eight feet off the ground but today’s modern homes often have high lofty ceiling or twelve feet or more. To make a ceiling fan mounted on a high ceiling more effective it’s best to use downrods. Downrods come in different lengths, some are adjustable, to drop the ceiling fan down to a better height for cooling the air. Ceiling fan downrod adapters may be necessary in order to use a down rod to drop a ceiling fan to a good height. Downrods usually come with adapters for attaching the down rods to ceiling fans but if by some chance the downrod purchased doesn’t have the adapters it’s easy to purchase them separately.
What Size Down Rod Should Be Used For A Ceiling Fan?
There is no one-size-fits-all down rod, but generally speaking a downrod should be long enough to drop the ceiling fan from the height of the ceiling to about seven or eight feet above the floor in order to cool the air most effectively. This doesn’t mean that ceiling fans won’t work if they are higher than seven or eight feet off the ground just that they won’t be working as effectively as they could be if they are higher up than seven or eight feet off the ground. Have questions about using or installing a downrod? Talk to the lighting and fan professionals at the local home improvement store. They are trained in how to install ceiling fans and lights and can help home owners find the right down rod and can even give detailed step by step instructions on how to install it. Downr ods are easy to find at any home store or decorating store and some of them will come with an installation kit that makes it easy to install the down rod. Putting in a down rod doesn’t have to be a huge hassle or an intimidating home improvement experience. It’s really quite simple and once it’s been done a couple times it will be easy to put down rods on all the ceiling fans in the home if there are very high ceilings. When building a home with high ceilings, have the contractor install the ceiling fans on down rods so they don’t need to be added in later. That will save home owners some time and money.
